Guarda questi esempi. Riesci a individuare lo schema grammaticale?

Worauf freust du dich? — Darauf.

What are you looking forward to? — To that.

Ich interessiere mich dafür.

I'm interested in it.

Wovon träumst du?

What do you dream of?

Ich freue mich darauf, dich wiederzusehen.

I look forward to seeing you again.

Presta attenzione alle parti evidenziate. Cosa hanno in comune?

For things (not people) after prepositional verbs, use da(r)+preposition instead of preposition+pronoun.

QuestionAnswerFor people
Worauf wartest du?Ich warte darauf.Auf wen wartest du?
Worüber freust du dich?Ich freue mich darüber.Über wen?
Woran denkst du?Ich denke daran. An wen?

Formation: da + prep = damit, dafür, davon. Vowel prep: dar+auf = darauf. Questions: wo + prep = womit, wofür; wor+auf = worauf.

For people: prep + wen/wem. Never use da-compounds for people.

Da-compounds also anticipate clauses: Ich freue mich darauf, dass du kommst.
