I possessivi in italiano concordano con la cosa posseduta (non con il possessore!) e richiedono l'articolo determinativo.

Eccezione con la famiglia: Con nomi di famiglia al singolare, NON si usa l'articolo: mio padre, tua madre, sua sorella. Ma al plurale: i miei fratelli, le tue sorelle. Con loro: sempre l'articolo: il loro padre.
Häufige Fehlermuster
Possessive agrees with owner's gender instead of the owned noun's gender
Italian possessives agree with the THING owned: la sua casa (his/her house) — sua because casa is feminine, regardless of owner's gender.
Missing article with possessives, or including article with singular family members
Always use article: il mio libro, la tua casa. EXCEPTION: singular family members drop article: mio padre, tua madre. But plural keeps it: i miei fratelli.
Il mio libro è sul tavolo.
My book is on the table.
Artikel + Possessiv + Nomen: il mio libro.
Mio padre è italiano.
My father is Italian.
Familienausnahme: kein Artikel im Singular (mio padre, nicht *il mio padre).
La sua casa è grande.
His house is big. (or: Her house is big.)
Suo/sua stimmt mit dem BESITZGEGENSTAND überein, nicht mit dem Besitzer.
