I pronomi diretti sostituiscono il complemento oggetto (la persona o cosa che riceve l'azione).

Posizione: I pronomi diretti vanno prima del verbo coniugato: Lo mangio (I eat it). Con l'infinito, si attaccano alla fine: Voglio mangiarlo (I want to eat it).

Lo/la + avere: Davanti ad ha/ho/hai/hanno, si apostrofano: L'ho comprato (I bought it).

Pronoun goes BEFORE the conjugated verb (lo mangio), not after. With infinitives, it attaches to the end (mangiarlo). 🇬🇧 English speakers: English puts object pronouns AFTER the verb (I see him). Italian puts them BEFORE (lo vedo). This word order reversal is the biggest challenge.

Häufige Fehlermuster

Placing direct object pronoun after the conjugated verb instead of before

Before conjugated verb: Lo vedo (not *Vedo lo). After infinitive: Voglio vederlo (attached). Both positions are correct with modal + infinitive: Lo voglio vedere = Voglio vederlo.

Using wrong gender pronoun for the replaced noun

Lo replaces masculine nouns, la replaces feminine. Li replaces masc. plural, le replaces fem. plural. Match the NOUN's gender.

Lo vedo ogni giorno.

I see him every day.
