Object pronouns: me, him, her, us, them
The one case English kept: I→me, he→him, she→her, we→us, they→them; after verbs and prepositions
I can replace nouns with the right object pronouns after verbs and prepositions.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Tell them the truth: the cake was me, not the dog.
Tell them the truth: the cake was me, not the dog.
Between you and me, this is the best seat on the whole ferry.
Between you and me, this is the best seat on the whole ferry.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Subject before the verb, object after it:

Object forms also follow every preposition: with me, for him, to her, between us. Casual answers use the object form: Who's there? - Me!
- Subject form after verbs/prepositions: *with I → with me
- *Me and him went... is casual; in writing: He and I went...
