Comparatives: más...que, menos...que, tan...como
Can compare things using más/menos...que and tan...como, including irregular comparatives
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Madrid es más grande que Sevilla.
Madrid is bigger than Seville.
Este restaurante es mejor que aquel.
This restaurant is better than that one.
Ana es tan inteligente como Pedro.
Ana is as intelligent as Pedro.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Para comparar cosas en español, usamos tres estructuras:

| Superioridad | más + adj + que | Madrid es más grande que Barcelona. |
| Inferioridad | menos + adj + que | Barcelona es menos grande que Madrid. |
| Igualdad | tan + adj + como | Ana es tan alta como Pedro. |
Comparativos irregulares (no usan más/menos):

| malo (bad) | peor (worse) | Hoy es peor que ayer. |
| grande (old/great) | mayor (older) | Mi hermano es mayor que yo. |
| pequeño (young) | menor (younger) | Soy menor que tú. |
Con sustantivos: más/menos + sustantivo + que: Tengo más libros que tú.
Con verbos: verbo + más/menos que: Trabajo más que tú.
Madrid es más grande que Sevilla.
Madrid is bigger than Seville.
más + adjective + que = more ... than. The adjective still agrees: 'grande' (doesn't change for gender here).
Este restaurante es mejor que aquel.
This restaurant is better than that one.
Irregular: bueno → mejor (not *más bueno). Don't combine más with irregular comparatives!
Ana es tan inteligente como Pedro.
Ana is as intelligent as Pedro.
tan + adjective + como = as ... as (equality). The adjective agrees with the subject (Ana = feminine → inteligente is invariable).
