Common Error Patterns

Pronouncing 'de' as [deː] instead of [dɔm]

'De' and 'dem' are BOTH pronounced 'dom' in speech.

My name is Erik and her name is Astrid.

'Jag' [jɑː] = I. 'Hon' = she. Swedish has no formal 'you' (du is universal).

De bor i Stockholm och vi bor i Göteborg.

They live in Stockholm and we live in Gothenburg.

'De' is pronounced 'dom' [dɔm], not [deː]. This catches everyone!

Kan du hjälpa mig?

Can you help me?

'Du' = you (universal, no formal form). 'Mig' = me (object form of jag), pronounced 'mej'.
