Can-Do Statements

After this module, you can...

• Order at a Hanoi quán the way locals do: "Cô ơi, cho cháu một bát phở bò ạ."
• Count what is on the table with the right classifier - bát, cốc, cái, con, quả, đôi, bó - and explain why "một phở" is not Vietnamese.
• Use the ten verbs of the table (ăn, uống, nấu, gọi, lấy, mua, bán, thích, mời, mang) in the one form they always have.
• Say what you want, need and have to do with muốn, cần and phải, and turn a want into a polite request with "Cho em...".
• Ask and answer yes-no questions with the có ... không? bracket, and answer a "... chưa?" question with Rồi or Chưa.
• Invite the elders at the table in order of seniority and ask for the bill: "Cháu mời cô ăn cơm ạ", "Cô ơi, cho cháu tính tiền ạ".
