Presta atención a las partes resaltadas. ¿Qué tienen en común?

Česká abeceda má 42 písmen. Kromě základních latinských písmen obsahuje písmena s háčkem (č, ď, ě, ň, ř, š, ť, ž) a čárkou (á, é, í, ó, ú/ů, ý).

TypPísmenaFunkce
Háčekč, ď, ě, ň, ř, š, ť, žMěkčí souhlásku nebo mění výslovnost
Čárkaá, é, í, ó, ú/ů, ýProdlužuje samohlásku
SpřežkachSamostatné písmeno (po h v abecedě)

Ř — unikátní český zvuk, znělá alveolární vibrantní frikativa. Příklady: řeka, tři, dřevo.

Ě — po d, t, n změkčuje souhlásku: děti [ďeťi], tělo [ťelo], ně [ňe]. Po m se čte [mňe]: město [mňesto].

Ch je v abecedě řazeno za h, nikoliv mezi c a d. Výslovnost jako německé «ch» v «Bach».

Ejercicios de práctica
Learners confuse háček and čárka functions, mispronounce ř, and forget that ch is a single letter. 🇬🇧 English speakers: English has no diacritics, so learners often ignore háčky and čárky or treat š/ž/č as s/z/c. The ř sound has no English equivalent and requires extensive practice.

Patrones de errores comunes

Missing háček or čárka on a letter, changing meaning or pronunciation

Remember: háček softens consonants (č, š, ž, ř) or changes vowels (ě); čárka lengthens vowels (á, é, í, ó, ú, ý)

Treating ch as two separate letters or misordering in alphabetical context

Ch is ONE letter in Czech, placed after h in the alphabet. It sounds like German 'ch' in Bach.

Řeka Vltava teče přes Prahu.

The Vltava river flows through Prague.

Ř appears in řeka (river) and přes (through). It is a raised alveolar trill unique to Czech.

Děti jedí zmrzlinu.

The children are eating ice cream.

Ě after d softens it: děti is pronounced [ďeťi], not [deťi]. The ě signals palatalization.

Chci chléb a čaj.

I want bread and tea.

Ch is a single letter in Czech, sorted after h. Č (with háček) is a separate letter pronounced like English 'ch'.
