Compétences pour l'examen:Expression écriteExpression orale

Regardez ces exemples. Pouvez-vous repérer le schéma grammatical ?

Vidím nového studenta.

I see a new student.

Mám novou knihu.

I have a new book.

Kupuji ten starý dům.

I am buying that old house.

Learners forget that only masculine animate adjectives change form in the accusative, leading to overuse of -ého with inanimate nouns. 🇬🇧 English speakers: English adjectives never change form, so the concept of accusative adjective endings is entirely new. Speakers often forget to change the adjective along with the noun.

Schémas d'erreurs fréquents

Used nominative adjective form instead of accusative with masculine animate noun

Masculine animate adjectives in accusative take -ého (hard) or -ího (soft): nový → nového, cizí → cizího

Wrong feminine accusative adjective ending (e.g., -á instead of -ou)

Hard feminine adjectives take -ou in accusative: nová → novou. Soft adjectives stay -í: cizí → cizí

Vidím nového studenta.

I see a new student.

Masculine animate: nový → nového (matches genitive form). The adjective must agree with the animate noun.

Mám novou knihu.

I have a new book.

Feminine hard adjective: nová → novou. The -ou ending is specific to accusative feminine.

Kupuji ten starý dům.

I am buying that old house.

Masculine inanimate: starý stays starý in accusative (same as nominative).
