The Goethe-Zertifikat A2 tests grammar implicitly through four skills:

PrüfungsteilGrammar Focus
LesenCase forms, subordinate clauses, time expressions
HörenPast tense narratives, comparisons, directions
SchreibenWord order, case system, connectors
SprechenComparisons, commands, opinions with dass/weil

A2 grammar checklist: Cases: full accusative + dative. Prepositions: DOGFU (acc.), aus-bei-mit-nach-seit-von-zu (dat.), Wechselpräpositionen. Verbs: Perfekt with sein, Präteritum of sein/haben/modals, reflexive verbs, imperative. Adjectives: comparative/superlative, Type 1 declension. Sentences: dass/wenn/ob, temporal connectors, TMP.

Strategy: Practice short emails with subordinate clauses. Prepare speaking with comparatives and imperatives.

  • als vs. wie: Comparisons use als; equality uses wie.
  • Verb position: Always check: verb at END after dass/wenn/ob/weil.
  • Case after prepositions: Review DOGFU (acc.) and aus-bei-mit-nach-seit-von-zu (dat.).

Common Error Patterns
