Навички для іспиту:АудіюванняГоворіння

Подивіться на ці приклади. Чи можете ви помітити граматичну закономірність?

Il est huit heures et quart.

It's quarter past eight.

Il est midi moins le quart.

It's quarter to twelve (noon).

Le train part à quatorze heures trente.

The train leaves at 14:30.

Зверніть увагу на виділені частини. Що у них спільного?

To ask the time, say Quelle heure est-il ? or, in conversation, Il est quelle heure ? The answer begins with Il est... and normally says heure(s), where English often drops "o'clock".

TimeFrenchEnglish
3:00Il est trois heures.It's three o'clock.
3:10Il est trois heures dix. It's ten past three.
3:15Il est trois heures et quart. It's quarter past three.
3:30Il est trois heures et demie. It's half past three.
3:45Il est quatre heures moins le quart. It's quarter to four.
3:50Il est quatre heures moins dix. It's ten to four.
12:00 (day)Il est midi.It's noon.
00:00Il est minuit.It's midnight.

The minutes come after the hour, and past the half hour French counts down to the next hour with moins (minus). Une heure is singular; from two on it is heures: Il est une heure, Il est deux heures.

The 24-hour clock

Timetables, cinemas, shops and official announcements use the 24-hour clock: Le train pour Bordeaux part à 15h30 - "quinze heures trente". It is also written with an h, not a colon: 15h30, 8h. In conversation, people more often say trois heures et demie and add du matin, de l'après-midi or du soir if needed.

At what time?

"At" is à: Le cours commence à neuf heures. - The class starts at nine. On se retrouve à midi ? - Shall we meet at noon? Do not use et quart or et demie with the 24-hour clock: quinze heures trente, not *quinze heures et demie.

Вправи для практики
Using 'moins' incorrectly; forgetting 'heures'. 🇬🇧 English speakers: English 'quarter past/to' partly maps. The 'moins' system (subtracting from the next hour) is new.

Il est huit heures et quart.

It's quarter past eight.

Et quart = чверть.

Il est midi moins le quart.

It's quarter to twelve (noon).

Moins le quart = без чверті.

Le train part à quatorze heures trente.

The train leaves at 14:30.

24-годинний: число + heures + хвилини.
