基本語順 — Basic Word Order

Japanese is an SOV (Subject-Object-Verb) language. The verb always comes at the end.

English (SVO)Japanese (SOV)
I eat sushi.わたしは すしを べます。
I read a book.わたしほんみます。

Key rule: The verb MUST come last. Everything else is relatively flexible because particles mark the role of each word.

Putting the verb in the middle (English SVO habit); Forgetting particles because 'word order should be enough'

私はりんごを食べます。

I eat an apple.

私(I) + は(topic) + りんご(apple) + を(object) + 食べます(eat) — verb at the end

田中さんは毎日日本語を勉強します。

Mr. Tanaka studies Japanese every day.

Time words (毎日) come after the topic or before the object — still verb last
