How Belarusian signals that it means the opposite, and the dry understatement that runs through its humour.
I can recognise irony and understatement in Belarusian and produce them with a single, well-placed signal.

Irony is not left to tone alone. There are lexical and syntactic signals, and recognising them is a comprehension skill before it is a production one.
The prevailing register of Belarusian humour is understatement rather than exaggeration. A disaster is не вельмі добра; an enormous effort is крыху папрацавалі. The comic effect comes from the gap between the words and the situation, and overstating destroys it.
The proverb Не такі страшны чорт, як яго малююць works this way, and so does the very common Магло быць і горш - it could have been worse - which is deployed after outcomes that could hardly have been.
Negating the opposite is a standing construction rather than a flourish: нядрэнна for good, не бяда for never mind, не абы-хто for somebody of consequence, не за гарамі for close at hand. These are neutral in register and used constantly.
Puns exploit the same material as everything else: мова and маўчаць, трус the rabbit against the Russian трус the coward. That second one is a standing joke precisely because it is a false friend, and it depends on the audience knowing both languages.
Humour that depends on historical reference or on the language situation itself will not survive translation, and a great deal of Belarusian humour is of exactly that kind. Reading it needs the context more than the vocabulary.
Use one signal, not three. Irony marked four ways at once stops being irony and becomes sarcasm, which is a different and much blunter instrument.
