Module 8: What you will be able to do
- recognise the five nuqta letters and know what they signal;
- read a word without its nuqta and not treat that as an error;
- build words with बे-, ना-, बद-, हर-, on the model of Russian bez- and ne-;
- separate the Persian and Sanskrit rows of negative prefixes and choose by register;
- read izafat and translate it without reordering;
- refrain from building izafat out of native words;
- recognise -दार, -ख़ाना, -मंद, -गी and take a word apart;
- agree -आत words as plurals;
- identify the layer of any new word and derive its register from that.
Russian helps unexpectedly much here: the prefixes match one to one, the two rows of
negation work like Slavic against Greco-Latin, and izafat fits your word order better
than the native Hindi construction does.
