Practice Exercises
Learners confuse digraphs (dh, gj, ll, nj, rr, sh, th, xh, zh) — each is a SINGLE letter in Albanian, not two separate sounds. 🇬🇧 English speakers: Struggle with ë (schwa in unstressed positions), gj (no equivalent), and the r/rr distinction (tap vs trill).

Common Error Patterns

Treated a digraph as two separate letters

Albanian digraphs (dh, gj, ll, nj, rr, sh, th, xh, zh) are single letters

Incorrect pronunciation of Albanian sounds

Review the 36-letter Albanian alphabet and key sound distinctions

Unë flas shqip.

I speak Albanian.

Shqip means 'Albanian' — note the sh digraph (one letter, one sound).

Ku është rruga?

Where is the street?

Rr is a trilled r — longer and stronger than single r.

Çaji është i nxehtë.

The tea is hot.

Ç sounds like English 'ch' in 'church'. Note the definite article suffix -i on çaj → çaji.
