الجملة الفعلية (Verbal Sentence)

Arabic has two sentence types. The verbal sentence (جملة فعلية) starts with a verb and follows VSO word order: Verb – Subject – Object.

Key rule: The verb is always singular when it comes before the subject, regardless of whether the subject is plural or dual.

Arabic (VSO)	English (SVO)
يَدرُسُ الطّالِبُ	The student studies
يَدرُسُ الطُّلّابُ	The students study
أَكَلَت البِنتُ التُّفّاحَةَ	The girl ate the apple

Note: يدرسُ الطلابُ (verb singular!) vs الطلابُ يدرسونَ (subject first → verb is plural). Verb-first = verb stays singular.

كَتَبَ المُعَلِّمُ الدَّرسَ

The teacher wrote the lesson

كتب (past verb) + المعلم (subject, nominative) + الدرس (object, accusative: الدرسَ).
