Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

The present continuous = be + verb-ing for actions happening now or around now:

State verbs avoid -ing: know, like, want, needI know (not *I'm knowing).

  • be dropped: *She cooking → She is cooking
  • State verbs in -ing: *I'm knowing him → I know him
  • Simple for now: *I read now → I'm reading now
