Practice Exercises
Using obrigada when you're male (or obrigado when female). Saying 'adeus' casually in Brazil (it's too formal/final — use tchau). Confusing com licença (passing) with desculpe (sorry). 🇬🇧 English speakers: 'Thank you' doesn't change in English. Portuguese obrigado/a depends on YOUR gender, not who you're thanking.

Oi, tudo bem?

Hi, how are you?

Tudo bem? is THE Brazilian greeting. Response: Tudo bem! / Tudo bom! / Tudo ótimo!

Muito obrigado!

Thank you very much!

Obrigado (male speaker) / Obrigada (female speaker). YOUR gender, not the person you thank!

Com licença, onde fica o banheiro?

Excuse me, where is the bathroom?

Com licença = excuse me (to get attention/pass). Banheiro (BP) / Casa de banho (EP) = bathroom.
