He comes from Japan and she comes from the United States.

Nous allons au Canada et au Brésil cet été.

We're going to Canada and Brazil this summer.

Astuce : La plupart des pays en -e sont féminins (exception : le Mexique, le Mozambique).

Using à for countries instead of en/au; confusing gender of countries. 🇬🇧 English speakers: English uses 'in' for everything. French requires en/au/aux based on country gender.

Common Error Patterns

Wrong preposition with country/city

Feminine countries = en (en France). Masculine = au (au Japon). Plural = aux. Cities = à.

J'habite en France, à Paris.

I live in France, in Paris.

En + feminine country (France). À + city (Paris).

Il vient du Japon et elle vient des États-Unis.

He comes from Japan and she comes from the United States.

Du + masculine country. Des + plural country.

Nous allons au Canada et au Brésil cet été.

We're going to Canada and Brazil this summer.

Au + masculine country (le Canada, le Brésil).
