Le chat est sur la table, sous la chaise, ou dans la boîte ?

Is the cat on the table, under the chair, or in the box?

La pharmacie est en face de la gare, à côté de la poste.

The pharmacy is opposite the station, next to the post office.

Je vais chez le médecin, il habite près de chez moi.

I'm going to the doctor's, he lives near my place.

Les prépositions de lieu indiquent la position :

Chez = at someone's place: Je suis chez Pierre. On va chez le médecin.

Confusing à/dans/en for 'in'; forgetting contractions (à + le = au). 🇬🇧 English speakers: 'In' can be à, dans, or en depending on context. No single rule covers all cases.

Common Error Patterns

Wrong preposition for location

à = at/to (general), dans = inside, sur = on, chez = at someone's place.

Le chat est sur la table, sous la chaise, ou dans la boîte ?

Is the cat on the table, under the chair, or in the box?

Sur = on, sous = under, dans = in(side). Three key spatial prepositions.

La pharmacie est en face de la gare, à côté de la poste.

The pharmacy is opposite the station, next to the post office.

Compound prepositions: en face de = opposite, à côté de = next to.

Je vais chez le médecin, il habite près de chez moi.

I'm going to the doctor's, he lives near my place.

Chez = at someone's place. Chez le médecin = at the doctor's office. Chez moi = my place.
