Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?

Це новий стіл.

This is a new table.

Моя мама вдома.

My mum is at home.

Вікно велике й світле.

The window is big and bright.

Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

🇬🇧 English speakers: English has no grammatical gender — you must learn each noun's gender, since it controls adjective and pronoun agreement. The ending is a strong clue but not 100%.

Це новий стіл.

This is a new table.

стіл — masculine (consonant ending), so новий.

Моя мама вдома.

My mum is at home.

мама — feminine (-а), so моя.

Вікно велике й світле.

The window is big and bright.

вікно — neuter (-о), so велике.
