The rule is strictly masculine + singular + in front. 'Una buen idea' and 'unos buen amigos' are both wrong. 🇺🇦 Ukrainian speakers: Same: nothing in Ukrainian shortens before a noun, so this must be memorised as a short closed list.

Hace un buen día: ¿damos un paseo antes de comer?

It's a nice day: shall we go for a walk before lunch?

Bueno → buen before a masculine singular noun. 'Una buena tarde' keeps the full form because it is feminine.

García Lorca fue un gran poeta, aunque no era un hombre grande.

García Lorca was a great poet, though he was not a large man.

Gran before the noun means 'great'; grande after it means 'big'. The same word, two meanings, decided by position.

La verbena de San Juan reúne a más de cien mil personas en las playas de Barcelona.

The Saint John's Eve celebration draws over a hundred thousand people to the beaches of Barcelona.

Santo → San before a name; ciento → cien before mil. Two apocopes in the same sentence.
