Зверніть увагу на виділені частини. Що у них спільного?

French compares with three short words where English uses "-er", "more", "less" and "as". The pattern is the same for every adjective, long or short: there is no French equivalent of the English "-er" ending.

ComparisonStructureExample
moreplus + adjective + queParis est plus grand que Lyon. - Paris is bigger than Lyon.
lessmoins + adjective + queLyon est moins cher que Paris. - Lyon is less expensive than Paris.
asaussi + adjective + queMarie est aussi grande que Pierre. - Marie is as tall as Pierre.

The adjective still agrees with the noun it describes: Marie est plus grande. And "than" is que (qu' before a vowel). Before a number French uses de instead: plus de dix euros - more than ten euros. A pronoun after que takes the stressed form: plus grand que moi, aussi rapide que lui.

bon → meilleur

"Better" as an adjective is meilleur, not *plus bon: Ce croissant est meilleur que l'autre. It agrees like any adjective: meilleure, meilleurs, meilleures. The adverb "better" is mieux: Elle chante mieux que moi. English uses one word for both, which is why meilleur and mieux are often mixed up.

With verbs

After a verb, use plus que, moins que and autant que (not aussi): Il travaille plus que moi. - He works more than me. Je dors autant que toi.

With nouns

Before a noun, add de: plus de, moins de, autant de + noun + que. Il a plus d'argent que moi. - He has more money than me. Il y a moins de touristes en novembre qu'en août.
