在的用法 — Uses of 在 (zài)
在 zài has two main uses at A1 level:

| Location | S + 在 + Place | 我在家。I'm at home. |
| Ongoing action | S + 在 + V | 我在吃饭。I'm eating. |
Location: 在 acts like 'at/in'. 他在学校 (He is at school). 猫在桌子上 (The cat is on the table).
Ongoing action: 在 before a verb ≈ English '-ing'. 她在看书 (She is reading).
Confusing the two uses of 在 (location vs. ongoing action). Context and sentence structure help: 在 + noun = location; 在 + verb = ongoing.
English speakers: May add extra words like *在里 for 'in'; just 在 is enough for simple locations.
Russian speakers: Russian uses different prepositions (в/на) for location; 在 covers all of these.
Czech speakers: Czech uses various prepositions (v/na/u) for location; 在 is simpler — one word for all.
