Il y a signifie « there is » et « there are » — la même forme pour singulier et pluriel :
- Il y a un chat dans le jardin. (there is a cat)
- Il y a des fleurs sur la table. (there are flowers)
Négation : Il n'y a pas de chat. (there is no cat)
Question : Est-ce qu'il y a un restaurant ici ? / Y a-t-il un restaurant ici ?
Il y a + durée : Pour le passé = ago : Il y a trois ans = three years ago. Je suis arrivé il y a deux jours.
Attention : Ne confondez pas il y a (there is) avec il a (he has) !

Il y a (not *il a). Negation: il n'y a pas DE (not *pas un/une/des).

Il y a = es gibt (Singular und Plural).
Il n'y a pas de lait dans le frigo.
Es gibt keine Milch im Kühlschrank.
Verneinung: pas DE (kein Artikel).

Ich bin vor zwei Jahren in Frankreich angekommen.
Il y a + Dauer = vor.
