ضمائر المفعول — Object Pronouns
Object pronouns are the same suffixes as possessive pronouns, but attached to verbs instead of nouns.
| Suffix | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ـهُ | him | رأيتُهُ (I saw him) |
| ـها | her | أحبّها (he loves her) |
| ـكَ | you (m) | سألتُكَ (I asked you) |
| ـكِ | you (f) | سألتُكِ |
| ـني | me | ساعدني (he helped me) |
| ـنا | us | زارنا (he visited us) |
Key: The suffix for 'me' on verbs is ـني (with protecting ن), not just ـي as on nouns.
رأيتُهُ في السوق.
I saw him in the market.
رأيتُ (I saw) + هُ (him) = رأيتُهُ. The object pronoun attaches directly to the verb.
أحبّها كثيراً.
He loves her very much.
أحبَّ (he loved/loves) + ها (her) = أحبّها. كثيراً = very much (adverb in accusative).
ساعدني أخي.
My brother helped me.
ساعدَ (he helped) + ني (me) = ساعدني. Note: 'me' on verbs is ـني (not ـي), the ن protects the verb ending.
زارنا صديقٌ قديم.
An old friend visited us.
زارَ (he visited) + نا (us) = زارنا. The same ـنا suffix used for 'our' on nouns means 'us' on verbs.
