Expressing wants and needs
I can express wants and needs.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
我想飲杯奶茶。
I want to drink a milk tea.
你要早啲瞓覺。
You need to sleep earlier.
我唔想去,但係要去。
I don't want to go, but I have to.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
我想去旅行。(I want to travel.)
我要返工。(I need to go to work.)

Negation: 唔想 (don't want), 唔要 (don't need) or 唔使 m4 sai2 (don't need to).

要 (must/need) — stronger obligation than 想.
