Czech native orthography: the preposition s goes with the instrumental case (s bratrem), z with the genitive (z domu) - the case test and the borderline cases

Vrátila se z výletu s plným batohem.
She came back from the trip with a full backpack.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
O předložce rozhoduje pád jména, se kterým se pojí:

| z, ze | 2. pád (z koho? z čeho?) | z domu, ze školy, z práce, z papíru |
Zkouška: polož otázku. Vrátil se (z čeho?) z hor - 2. pád, tedy z. Šel (s kým?) s kamarádem - 7. pád, tedy s.
Směr z povrchu pryč dnes přípustně píšeme z i s: vzít ze stolu / se stolu - základní (neutrální) podoba je z. Ustálené spojení s sebou (vzít si s sebou) se píše vždy se s, protože jde o 7. pád.
