Inessive & Elative
Inessive (-ssa/-ssä = in/at) and elative (-sta/-stä = from/out of)
I can express location (in) and origin (from).

Inessive & Elative
Inessive (-ssa/-ssä) = 'in/at' (inside). Elative (-sta/-stä) = 'from/out of'. These are 'inner local cases' — they express being inside or moving out of something.
Mixing up inessive (-ssa = in) and elative (-sta = from). Forgetting vowel harmony (-ssa vs -ssä).
Common Error Patterns
Mixing inessive and elative
-ssa = in (static), -sta = from (movement away). Ask: missä? or mistä?
Asun Helsingissä.
I live in Helsinki.
Helsinki → Helsingissä (inessive -ssä, front vowels). Note stem change: Helsinki → Helsingi-.
Tulen Suomesta.
I come from Finland.
Suomi → Suomesta (elative -sta). Suomi → Suome- (stem) + sta.
Kahvi on pöydässä.
The coffee is on the table.
Pöytä → pöydässä (inessive -ssä). Note consonant gradation: t → d.
