Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?

სად არის მარკეტი? - იქ, მარჯვნივ.

Where is the market? - There, on the right.

ჩემი ოჯახი აქ ცხოვრობს, ბათუმში.

My family lives here, in Batumi.

მთები შორს არის, ზღვა კი ახლოს.

The mountains are far, but the sea is near.

Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

Adverbs of place

აქ (here), იქ (there), სად (where?), ახლოს (near), შორს (far). They stand before the verb: მე აქ ვცხოვრობ (I live here). სად opens questions: სად მუშაობ? (Where do you work?).

Mixing up აქ/იქ with the -ში postposition phrases: 'here' is აქ, never *აქში. Also placing the adverb after the verb (EN transfer): say აქ ვცხოვრობ, not *ვცხოვრობ აქ (possible but marked).

Common Error Patterns

Redundant postpositions on place adverbs

Sort drill: bare adverbs (აქ, იქ, სად) vs noun+ში phrases (თბილისში).

სად არის მარკეტი? - იქ, მარჯვნივ.

Where is the market? - There, on the right.

სად question + იქ answer with direction.

ჩემი ოჯახი აქ ცხოვრობს, ბათუმში.

My family lives here, in Batumi.

აქ before the verb; ბათუმში specifies it.

მთები შორს არის, ზღვა კი ახლოს.

The mountains are far, but the sea is near.

შორს/ახლოს contrast with კი.
