He (or she) is a doctor.

ჩვენ მეგობრები ვართ.

Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

Personal Pronouns

Georgian has six personal pronouns: მე (I), შენ (you), ის (he/she/it - one word for all three!), ჩვენ (we), თქვენ (you plural / polite), ისინი (they).

Two key points: Georgian has no gender, so ის covers he, she and it; and because the verb already marks the person (ვ- = I, -ს = he/she), pronouns are often dropped: ვსწავლობ alone means "I study".

Looking for separate he/she words - ის covers both. Using შენ with strangers (use polite თქვენ). Repeating the pronoun in every sentence - Georgian drops it when the verb makes it clear.

Common Error Patterns

Wrong pronoun choice or expecting gendered forms

Review the pronoun table; remember ის = he/she/it.

მე საქართველოდან ვარ.

I am from Georgia.

მე = I; -დან = from (Sakartvelo = Georgia).

ის ექიმია.

He (or she) is a doctor.

ის = he/she/it: Georgian pronouns have no gender.

ჩვენ მეგობრები ვართ.

We are friends.

ჩვენ = we; ვართ = we are.
