Practice Exercises
Learners add endings to predicative adjectives: Er ist große instead of Er ist groß. Endings only appear before nouns. 🇬🇧 English speakers: English speakers add endings to predicative adjectives: 'Er ist große' instead of 'Er ist groß' — English adjectives never inflect, so the rule feels counterintuitive.

Common Error Patterns

Wrong adjective declension ending

Check: which article type? Which case? Which gender? Then apply the correct ending table

Incorrect comparative or superlative form

Regular: -er (comparative), am -sten (superlative). Watch for umlauts: alt→älter, groß→größer

Added ending to predicate adjective

Predicate adjectives (after sein/werden) have NO ending: Das Haus ist groß (not großes)

Mein Bruder ist groß und sportlich.

My brother is tall and athletic.

After sein, adjectives have no endings: groß, sportlich.

Die Kinder sind müde.

The children are tired.

Müde stays unchanged — no ending needed after sein.

Sie ist sehr freundlich.

She is very friendly.

Sehr (very) intensifies adjectives without changing their form.
