Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

होना — To Be

होना is Hindi's most important verb. Present tense forms:

मैं	हूँ	मैं छात्र हूँ। (I am a student.)
तू	है	तू अच्छा है। (You're good.)
यह/वह	है	वह डॉक्टर है। (He/She is a doctor.)
तुम	हो	तुम कहाँ हो? (Where are you?)
हम/आप/ये/वे	हैं	हम तैयार हैं। (We are ready.)

Negation: Add नहीं before होना: मैं छात्र नहीं हूँ। (I am not a student.)

Note: होना is used for identity, location, and as an auxiliary in other tenses.

Common Error Patterns

Wrong form of होना for the subject

मैं→हूँ, तू/यह/वह→है, तुम→हो, हम/आप/ये/वे→हैं

Omitting होना (influence from Russian/pro-drop)

Hindi never drops होना in present: मैं छात्र हूँ (not मैं छात्र)

मैं always pairs with हूँ.

3rd person singular यह/वह takes है.

तुम कहाँ हो?

तुम takes the unique form हो.
