Fantastiskt! Till skillnad från engelska (am/is/are) och tyska (bin/bist/ist/sind) har svenska bara en form: är.

Användning: identitet, nationalitet, yrke, känsla, plats.

Swedish 'vara' is easier than most languages — one form for all persons!

🇬🇧 English: am/is/are becomes just 'är'. Much simpler!
🇷🇺 Russian: Russian drops 'to be' in present. Swedish requires it: Jag

Common Error Patterns

Dropping 'är' as in Russian

Swedish ALWAYS needs 'är': Jag är student, not *Jag student.

Jag är student och hon är lärare.

I am a student and she is a teacher.

All persons use 'är'. No article before professions: 'Jag är student', not *'Jag är en student'.

Vi är glada att vara här.

We are happy to be here.

'Glada' = happy (plural adjective form). 'Att vara' = to be (infinitive).

Är du svensk? Nej, jag är norsk.

Are you Swedish? No, I'm Norwegian.

Questions: 'Är' moves to front. Nationalities are lowercase in Swedish: svensk, norsk.
