Ordinals (перший, другий…) — declined like adjectives; dates and order
I can form and decline Ukrainian ordinal numbers and use them in dates.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Я живу на п'ятому поверсі, вікнами на Дніпро.
I live on the fifth floor, with windows onto the Dnipro.
Сьогодні перше вересня — діти йдуть до школи з квітами.
Today is the first of September - the children go to school with flowers.
Це вже друга чашка кави — ми на Ринку.
That is already the second cup of coffee - we are on the Market Square.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Порядкові числівники відповідають на питання котрий? і відмінюються, як прикметники (рід, число, відмінок):

Далі: шостий, сьомий, восьмий, дев'ятий, десятий. У складених числах змінюється лише останнє слово: два́дцять пе́рший.
Дати: число — родовий порядкового + місяць у родовому: пе́ршого тра́вня, два́дцять четве́ртого се́рпня (Independence Day).
