Comparative and superlative of adjectives and adverbs (-ший, най-)
I can form and use Ukrainian comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives and adverbs, including the common irregulars and ніж/за.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Київ більший за Львів.
Kyiv is bigger than Lviv.
Це найкраща кав'ярня в місті.
This is the best cafe in town.
Сьогодні я почуваюся краще, ніж учора.
Today I feel better than yesterday.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Прикметники й прислівники мають три ступені.
| Ступінь | Як утворити | Приклад |

| Звичайний | — | висо́кий (high), га́рний |
| Вищий (comparative) | -ший / -іший (або більш + прикм.) | ви́щий, гарні́ший |
| Найвищий (superlative) | най- + вищий ступінь | найви́щий, найгарні́ший |
Порівняння з ніж / за / від: Київ бі́льший, ніж Львів = Київ бі́льший за Львів. Неправильні: добрий → кра́щий → найкра́щий; поганий → гі́рший → найгі́рший; великий → бі́льший; малий → ме́нший.
Прислівники: швидко → шви́дше, добре → кра́ще.
Київ більший за Львів.
Kyiv is bigger than Lviv.
Comparative більший + за.
Це найкраща кав'ярня в місті.
This is the best cafe in town.
Irregular superlative: найкраща.
Сьогодні я почуваюся краще, ніж учора.
Today I feel better than yesterday.
Adverb comparative краще + ніж.
