No verb 'to be': personal endings attach to the noun. Men talabaman = I am a student.
I can say who I am with -man/-san/-miz and what I have with bor/yo'q.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Men talabaman.
I am a student.
Mening akam bor.
I have an elder brother.
Bugun vaqtim yo'q.
I have no time today.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
Personal endings do the work of 'am/is/are': Men talabaman (I am a student), Sen talabasan, U talaba (nothing needed!), Biz talabamiz, Siz talabasiz.
'To have' = bor / yo'q: Mening akam bor (I have an elder brother), Vaqtim yo'q (I have no time).

Practice ExercisesLooking for a separate 'is' word. Adding -man to the 3rd person (*u talabaman). Using emas (is not) where yo'q (there is no) belongs.
Missing personal endings or emas/yo'q confusion
Drill noun + ending; sort emas vs yo'q.
Men talabaman.
I am a student.
talaba + -man: the ending IS the verb 'to be'.
Mening akam bor.
I have an elder brother.
bor = there is; possession like Russian 'у меня есть'.
Bugun vaqtim yo'q.
I have no time today.
yo'q negates existence/possession.
