Užití: zdvořilost (Chtěl bych kávu. Mohl byste mi pomoct?), přání (Rád bych jel na hory.), podmínka s kdyby (Kdybych měl čas, přišel bych.).
Pozor na zvratná slovesa: bys + se → by ses, bys + si → by sis: Kam by ses chtěl podívat?
