Confusing ser and ir in past tense since forms are identical. Context is the only clue.
Ayer fui al cine.
Yesterday I went to the cinema.
Fui = I went (ir). Context: al cine = destination → this is IR, not ser.
La fiesta fue muy divertida.
The party was very fun.
Fue = was (ser). Context: describing a characteristic → this is SER, not ir.
Fuimos a la playa el domingo.
We went to the beach on Sunday.
Fuimos = we went (ir). 'A la playa' = destination → IR.
