Drop final vowel of tens before uno/otto: ventuno, ventotto, trentuno, quarantotto. NOT *ventiuno, *ventiotto.
Ordinal number not agreeing in gender with the noun
Ordinals are adjectives — they agree: il primo giorno (M), la prima volta (F), i primi giorni (M.pl.), le prime volte (F.pl.).

Vokalausfall: venti + uno = ventuno (nicht *ventiuno).
