Pozor: Číslovka jeden se mění podle rodu: jeden (M), jedna (F), jedno (N). Číslovka dva má tvar dvě pro ženský a střední rod. Čísla 11–19 mají příponu -náct (z 'na deset').

Learners struggle with gender-dependent forms of 'one' and 'two' and the pronunciation of consonant clusters in teens. 🇬🇧 English speakers: English numbers are gender-neutral, so remembering jeden/jedna/jedno and dva/dvě is a new concept. The -náct suffix for teens is unfamiliar.

Common Error Patterns

Used wrong gender form of jeden or dva (e.g., *jeden žena instead of jedna žena)

Remember: jeden/jedna/jedno for M/F/N; dva for masculine, dvě for feminine and neuter

Incorrect form of a teen number (e.g., *dvanást instead of dvanáct)

Review the -náct suffix pattern and memorize the stem changes (tři→třináct, čtyři→čtrnáct)

Mám tři bratry a dvě sestry.

I have three brothers and two sisters.

Dvě is the feminine/neuter form of dva (two). Tři does not change for gender.

Je mi devatenáct let.

I am nineteen years old.

Teen numbers use the -náct suffix. After 5+, use genitive plural (let, not roky).

Jeden lístek stojí patnáct korun.

One ticket costs fifteen crowns.

Jeden agrees with masculine lístek. Patnáct is formed from pět + náct.
