Common Error Patterns
Confusing op/aan/bij
Op = on (horizontal surface). Aan = on (attached/vertical). Bij = at/near (proximity).
De kat zit op de tafel naast het raam.
The cat sits on the table next to the window.
'Op' for horizontal surface, 'naast' for beside.
Het schilderij hangt aan de muur boven de bank.
The painting hangs on the wall above the couch.
'Aan' for attached to surface. 'Boven' for above.
De kinderen spelen tussen de bomen achter ons huis.
The children play between the trees behind our house.
'Tussen' for between. 'Achter' for behind.
