Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

Conjugating the infinitive instead of aller; putting ne...pas around the infinitive. 🇬🇧 English speakers: 'Going to' structure is almost identical — this is one of the easiest French structures for English speakers.

Common Error Patterns

Conjugated the infinitive or misplaced negation

Only conjugate aller. Infinitive stays unchanged. Negation: ne + aller + pas + infinitive.

Je vais prendre un café.

I'm going to have a coffee.

Vais (aller conjugated) + prendre (infinitive). Simple and very common.

Nous n'allons pas sortir ce soir.

We're not going to go out tonight.

Negation wraps aller: ne + allons + pas. The infinitive stays untouched.

Il va pleuvoir demain.

It's going to rain tomorrow.

Il va + infinitive for weather predictions. Very natural in French.
