rom introduces that-clauses after knowing, saying, thinking; wanting takes rom + subjunctive.
I can report knowledge, opinions, and wishes with that-clauses.
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
ვიცი, რომ ხვალ დათო ჩამოვა.
I know that Dato will arrive tomorrow.
მგონია, რომ ეს რესტორანი ძვირია.
I think that this restaurant is expensive.
გვინდა, რომ საქართველოში დავრჩეთ.
We want to stay in Georgia.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
რომ = 'that': ვიცი, რომ ქართული რთულია (I know that Georgian is difficult). A comma always precedes რომ.
After wanting/asking, the verb of the რომ-clause is subjunctive: მინდა, რომ ქართულად ვილაპარაკო (I want to speak Georgian).

Practice ExercisesUsing the indicative after wanting (*მინდა, რომ ვლაპარაკობ instead of ვილაპარაკო) and dropping the comma. DE speakers: no verb-final order in rom-clauses - Georgian keeps its normal order.
Indicative instead of subjunctive in wish rom-clauses
Contrast drills: ვიცი, რომ + indicative vs მინდა, რომ + subjunctive.
ვიცი, რომ ხვალ დათო ჩამოვა.
I know that Dato will arrive tomorrow.
Indicative future after ვიცი.
მგონია, რომ ეს რესტორანი ძვირია.
I think that this restaurant is expensive.
Opinion verb მგონია + რომ.
გვინდა, რომ საქართველოში დავრჩეთ.
We want to stay in Georgia.
Wish + subjunctive დავრჩეთ.
