Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?

זה בֵּיתִי.

This is my house.

שְׁמוֹ הוא דוד.

His name is David.

זֶה לֹא עִנְיָנְךָ.

This is none of your business.

Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?

במקום הספר שלי, אפשר לומר סִפְרִי — כינויי השייכות המחוברים נוצרים על ידי הוספת סיומת ישירות לשם העצם.

סיומות: (שלי), (שלך זכר), -ךְ (שלך נקבה), (שלו), (שלה), -נו (שלנו), -כם (שלכם), -כן (שלכן), (שלהם), (שלהן).

שימוש: נפוץ בביטויים קבועים ובסגנון רשמי.

Common Error Patterns

Using wrong possessive suffix (e.g., confusing masc./fem. 2nd person)

Using attached possessives where שֶׁל construction is more natural in modern speech

זה בֵּיתִי.

This is my house.

בֵּיתִי = בַּיִת + suffix י- (my). Equivalent to הבית שלי but more literary.

שְׁמוֹ הוא דוד.

His name is David.

שְׁמוֹ = שֵׁם + suffix ו- (his). This fixed phrase is used in everyday speech.

זֶה לֹא עִנְיָנְךָ.

This is none of your business.

עִנְיָנְךָ = עִנְיָן + suffix ךָ- (your masc.). Common idiomatic use of attached possessives.
