Common Error Patterns
Using a direct translation of 'have' with separate verb (e.g. *אני יש שאלה) instead of the יש לי structure.
Using wrong gender suffix on preposition, e.g. לוֹ instead of לָהּ for a feminine referent.
יֵשׁ לִי שְׁאֵלָה.
I have a question.
Hebrew expresses 'have' with יֵשׁ לְ- (there is to). לִי = to me (preposition לְ + 1sg suffix). This is the standard possession structure.
אֵין לוֹ זְמַן.
He has no time.
אֵין לוֹ = he doesn't have. לוֹ is the 3rd person masculine singular form of לְ- (to him). אֵין is the negation of יֵשׁ.
אני מאמין בְּךָ.
I believe in you (m).
בְּךָ = in you (masc. sg.). Preposition בְּ- (in/at) + 2nd person masculine singular suffix. Used with verbs like מאמין (believe), עוסק (deal with).
