Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
A határozott ragozás múlt ideje határozott tárggyal áll.
1. személy egybeesik: Láttam egy filmet (határozatlan) = Láttam a filmet (határozott).
3. személy különbözik: Olvasott egy könyvet (hatat.) vs Olvasta a könyvet (hatat.).
Common Error Patterns
Wrong definite/indefinite past form
Confusing 3rd person definite vs indefinite past
Láttam a filmet.
I saw the film.
Definite past: seen the specific film. Same 1st person form as indefinite.
Olvasta a könyvet.
He/she read the book.
3rd person definite past: -ta ending. Different from indefinite 'olvasott'.
Megírta a levelet.
He/she wrote the letter.
Definite past with verbal prefix: prefix stays attached in past tense.
