Direct object pronouns: mi, ti, lo/la, ci, vi, li/le
Can use direct object pronouns to replace nouns
Look at these examples. Can you spot the grammar pattern?
Lo vedo ogni giorno.
I see him every day.
Voglio comprarla.
I want to buy it (fem.).
Ci invitano alla festa.
They invite us to the party.
Pay attention to the highlighted parts. What do they have in common?
I pronomi diretti sostituiscono il complemento oggetto (la persona o cosa che riceve l'azione).

Posizione: I pronomi diretti vanno prima del verbo coniugato: Lo mangio (I eat it). Con l'infinito, si attaccano alla fine: Voglio mangiarlo (I want to eat it).
Lo/la + avere: Davanti ad ha/ho/hai/hanno, si apostrofano: L'ho comprato (I bought it).
Common Error Patterns
Placing direct object pronoun after the conjugated verb instead of before
Before conjugated verb: Lo vedo (not *Vedo lo). After infinitive: Voglio vederlo (attached). Both positions are correct with modal + infinitive: Lo voglio vedere = Voglio vederlo.
Using wrong gender pronoun for the replaced noun
Lo replaces masculine nouns, la replaces feminine. Li replaces masc. plural, le replaces fem. plural. Match the NOUN's gender.
Lo vedo ogni giorno.
I see him every day.
Lo (him/it masc.) goes before the verb: Lo vedo (not *Vedo lo).
Voglio comprarla.
I want to buy it (fem.).
With infinitive, pronoun attaches to end: comprarla (not *la comprare). Drop final -e of infinitive.
Ci invitano alla festa.
They invite us to the party.
Ci (us) before the verb: Ci invitano.
