The biggest A1 challenge. Memorize the meaning-change adjectives (listo, aburrido, bueno, malo, rico). General rule: ser = permanent, estar = temporary, but there are nuances. 🇬🇧 English speakers: Constantly default to one verb since English has only 'to be'. The meaning-change adjectives are especially tricky (ser listo = clever vs. estar listo = ready).

María es guapa. Hoy está muy guapa.

María is pretty. Today she looks very pretty.

Ser guapa = she IS pretty (inherent quality). Estar guapa = she LOOKS pretty right now (temporary impression, maybe she dressed up).

El café es bueno. El café está bueno.

Coffee is good (in general). This coffee tastes good.

Ser bueno = good quality in general. Estar bueno = tastes/feels good right now. This adjective changes meaning!

Pedro es aburrido. Pedro está aburrido.

Pedro is boring. Pedro is bored.

Ser aburrido = he IS a boring person (characteristic). Estar aburrido = he IS bored right now (temporary feeling).
