4-form agreement and post-noun position.

Common Error Patterns

Placing adjective before noun

Romanian adjectives go AFTER the noun: 'o casă mare', NOT *'o mare casă'.

Using wrong adjective form for gender/number

4 forms: frumos (m.sg), frumoasă (f.sg), frumoși (m.pl), frumoase (f.pl).

O fată frumoasă citește o carte interesantă.

A beautiful girl reads an interesting book.

Both adjectives after nouns: frumoasă (fem.sg. of frumos), interesantă (fem.sg. of interesant).

Băieții mari și fetele mici se joacă împreună.

The big boys and the little girls play together.

'Mari' = big (masc.pl. of mare). 'Mici' = small (fem.pl. of mic). Agreement with each noun.

Mâncarea românească este foarte bună.

Romanian food is very good.

'Românească' = Romanian (fem.sg. adjective). 'Bună' = good (fem.sg.). Both agree with mâncarea (fem.).

Frequently asked questions

When is Adjectivul: acordul used?
Adjectivele în română au 4 forme — se acordă în gen și număr cu substantivul:
How is Adjectivul: acordul formed?
Excepții (pot sta și înainte): bun, mare, frumos, mic — dar poziția după substantiv este standardul. Cu articol hotărât: casa frumoasă (the beautiful house), băiatul frumos (the handsome boy).
What are common mistakes with Adjectivul: acordul?
4-form agreement and post-noun position are the main challenges. 🇬🇧 English: English adjectives don't change. Romanian has 4 forms per adjective AND they go AFTER the noun! 🇷🇺 Russian: Russian adjectives agree (красивый/красивая/красивое/красивые). Similar! But Russian puts them BEFORE nouns; Romanian AFTER. 🇨🇿 Czech: Czech adjectives agree too (krásný/krásná/krásné). Position is also before noun in Czech, unlike Romanian. 🇩🇪 German: German adjectives agree with complex declension. Position before noun. Romanian is simpler (4 forms) but goes AFTER.
